Message Takeaways - The Household of God

The Household of God

Ephesians 2:17-22

This Sunday, we explored the importance of being an active part of the church community, based on Ephesians 2:17-22. Pastor Stu emphasized that God has made us part of a new kingdom, a new family, and a new building - His church. He highlighted the joy and necessity of life together in Christ, challenging us to move beyond individualistic faith and embrace our role in God's larger purpose.

Takeaways:

  • God has made us citizens of His kingdom, with privileges and responsibilities, calling us to actively contribute to the church's life rather than merely consume it.
  • We are part of God's family, where we find deep intimacy and growth. This includes both spiritual "babies" and mature believers, demanding grace, patience, and commitment from everyone.
  • The church is a spiritual building with Christ as the cornerstone, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets. Jesus joins us together to be a dwelling place for God's Spirit.

As we reflect on this message, let's consider how we can deepen our commitment to our church family. Are we tempted to be "spiritual consumers," or are we actively contributing to the life and mission of our church? How can we grow in our understanding of what it means to be part of God's kingdom, family, and building?

May we all embrace the joy of life together in Christ's body, supporting one another and growing in faith as we serve God's purpose in our community.

Three ideas to reflect on this week:

1. Citizens of God's Kingdom
Philippians 3:20 - But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflection: As you contemplate your heavenly citizenship, consider how you might shift your perspective from receiving to giving, recognizing the value of your presence in the church community. How can you, with divine privileges, embrace your responsibilities and actively partake in the kingdom's mission?

Prayer Prompt: Lord, guide my heart to fully appreciate my role in Your kingdom and inspire me to serve willingly and joyfully.

2. Members of God's Family
Ephesians 2:19 - So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.

Reflection: In the sacred space of God's family, you are reminded of the profound connections that transcend differences and nurture growth. In what ways can you extend grace and patience to those around you, recognizing the divine work unfolding in each member's journey?

Prayer Prompt: Father, open my eyes to the beauty of our spiritual family and deepen my commitment to nurture and support it with love and understanding.

3. The Church's Foundation and Construction
Ephesians 2:20-22 - Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.

Reflection: Contemplating Christ as the cornerstone, see the church not merely as a structure but as a dynamic, living temple where God's Spirit dwells among you. How might you contribute to the unity and sacredness of this spiritual edifice?

Prayer Prompt: Jesus, center my heart on You, our cornerstone, and teach me to be a faithful part of Your living temple, fostering unity and reverence.
